T-shirts are another good money maker. You may not be able to make your own t-shirts at home. But you can go to a local t-shirt company in town or go with a t-shirt design company online. Think of some crazy slogans or current events and make your own tee. Slogans, phrases, and current events will always do you good. You can have 500 t-shirts made for under $2.00 each. Sell them at $5.00 and will double your money and then some. I have done this myself and Acttee to this day, sell t-shirts I created. It usually takes about a week and a half to sell 500 t-shirts. Sell more than 2 different t-shirts at the same time and you will easily make over $1000.00 a week or more every week on eBay.
Advice for Promotion: Don’t be afraid to advertise. Create buttons, stickers, give them out and be sure people remember you. Tell people about it, you’d be surprised how many people would be willing to help you out.
Fear is great at paralyzing us and killing our dreams. Even before starting a business, the fear of failure sets in and prevents most of us from even taking that first step. To start a business, you have to be willing to accept the risk failure. To do this, you have to be able to change your perspective and see each failure as a temporary setback on your long journey towards success.
You need to have contact with your customers. If you let someone go to your website and leave without ever getting the chance to talk to them, you’ve missed out on a huge opportunity. You’ll want to provide a way to subscribe to your newsletter or ‘special offers’ mailing list. Try offering an incentive for them to leave their email address. If you can get a small list of people who, at least at one time, were interested in your product or service, you have a great resource for drumming up business.
Starting your own business is extremely hard work. My wife and I have worked to the point of physical and mental exhaustion just to wake up the next day and do it all again. Luckily, we have both been through Army Basic Training and know that we were capable of pushing through. There is no clock to punch, no vacation time, and no paycheck. That said, I’ve also continued to work my regular day job until 5pm then off to the bakery until midnight or later. So ask yourself, if you are willing to put yourself through this.
This one should go without saying but I feel that it needs to be said anyways. Double, nay triple check your website for spelling and grammatical errors. You are making an impression on every person that visits your site and you want it to be a good one. There are many people out there that, if they recognize a simple error in a piece of ad copy or on a website, will lose a ton of respect for the company in question. You are making a sale on that person… you are selling them the fact that you are the right choice. If you are not professional enough to have proper grammar, punctuation, or spelling on your website, then how are you going to sell them that you are the right choice?
Even if it is just for an internship, most companies won’t hire someone without interviewing the person in a face-to-face first. This works well if you are in LA and the interview is in LA. But if you are not, don’t be afraid to say you are coming out for a week of meetings and ask if you could have your interview then.
