Fish like tilapia and Chinese catfish are tropical fish that require warm water. In temperate climates, these fish would not be appropriate for outdoors, unless you are going to heat the water. In these cases, you would be better off with a type of fish that is tolerant of cold water. If your aquaponics system is indoors, this is less of a concern. On the other hand, fish like trout and salmon require cold water. If you are in a warm climate this might not be the best fish for you, unless you can somehow supply them with cool water from a stream or refrigeration.
I personally hate the C word, and I’m not going to use it again. But I do whole heartedly believe that many of the chemicals used in growing our food is detrimental to our health. If nothing else home grown organic vegetables taste a million times better than most shop bought equivalents. There is nothing worse than a large healthy looking tomato that actually has no taste at all.
Many medical marijuana patients and growers for the patients ask the question, “How do I grow weed indoors?” They ask this question because, not all states have dispensaries where medical weed is legal. It is safer to grow weed inside of your own home, than it is buying on the streets. Buying weed on the streets is illegal and if you do purchase a bag of weed the quality will always be questionable. So, why not just grow weed indoors, you will always have your supply that will be the same quality every time.
In a fish aquarium you have to constantly add food to the system. Then you need a filter to remove the waste materials from the water that the fish produce from the food. This is usually done with a mechanical filter, but plants can also make a great filter. Plants will clean the water while they extract valuable nutrients from the water. With a good balance between fish, plants, and friendly bacteria, you can have a healthy aquarium without a mechanical filter, that will mostly clean itself.
Do not buy a DIY an aquaponics kit that requires a huge initial expense. This will bring down the profitability (and fun!) of your gardening exercise. Lots of people make their gardens out of easily available materials, most of which don’t even need to be bought from a store. Of course, once you’ve gained familiarity with the system you could always buy expensive materials.
A fish tank, how big the tank is depends on how big your room is and how much space you have allocated to your set up. The important thing is that you do not add any fish to the tank until it has been up and running for at least three weeks to allow the natural bacteria to grow.
You can pretty much say that everything is increased, as far as benefits go. Your plants will grow thicker, be more healthy, and they will give off a ton more fruit. They also grow a lot faster, and you can grow more plants within the same living space than you could grow in the garden. This will allow your plants to look extremely lush and be very beautiful.
The best thing is to find out what kind of fish other people in your area are having success with. Or do some research first and learn about what the needs of different fish so you can decide which fish will be best for you.

Hydroponics is a system in which water is used to grow produce. Aquaculture is a system in which aquatic organisms, typically fish, are grown. These systems are a little more entailed than what was just noted, but they are two statements to give you an idea about what is yet to come.
