“I like playing between comedians and burlesque performers. I am glad that it’s not your typical singer/songwriter night, where you redo the coffee house set. ‘Hey, here’s all my songs and they’re all really important.’ That stuff always bums me out when I see it. I’m not interested in anyone else doing that and I don’t want to do it to myself,” said Cody Wyoming, musician of Miss America and Golden Hearted Whores.

After sleeping in till 2pm, I head over to the USC Film School party, which besides the free wine and amazing crab cakes, is pretty uneventful. I head over with the two mates to the X-Dance Awards Show. Markazi is the only one on the list but once again we manage to coerce our way inside. The highlight of the show is seeing motocross champ and Metal Mulisha leader, Brian Deegan, who has won 10 medals in the X-Games. The awards show overall isn’t exactly as organized as say, The Golden Globes, but then again, the winners and presenters are in wife-beaters, beanies and skate shoes and the award is a plastic skateboard.

The bartenders at t-shirt country are some of the best I’ve encountered, both here in North Carolina and Virginia. They know how to make a drink, at that, one that isn’t just ice with a splash of liquor. The biggest selling point would have to be their prices. Tap beers are usually $3, PBR is always on special at $2 Sundays-Thursdays and $2.50 Friday and Saturday, house liquors are usually $4-$5 and whatever concoction on special is under $5. It’s hard to complain when $25 can go such a long way.

Some people become braggarts when consuming their favorite beverages. Whether the big talk covers hitting on an attractive stranger, standing up to a romantic partner, or confronting an unpleasant coworker or boss, plans grow inevitably grander as the night wears on. Delivering this line can either pull the planner back to reality, or serve as the equivalent of a Triple Dog Dare.

If you’re still in the mood to party you can Head back downtown to 152. All I have to say is “$2 shots all night”. Enough said with that type of incentive you’re bound to meet somebody; it’s inevitable, as agent Smith would say. You have until the wee hours of the morning to make a friend or two. Get a wristband hit the third floor and tip well, the rest will take care of itself.

What makes a good nightclub great is the inclusion of live music. A club that plays top 40s is all well and good, but a club that has a house DJ or a local band on stage brings the feeling of a big event to the club. Hearing song mash-ups or remixes spun from an artist’s turntable gets everyone on their feet and moving. And a live band makes a crowd roar. This makes the club the must-see hot spot for lovers of nightlife.
